Hazleton, The United Way of Greater Hazleton has announced the expansion of it’s annual allocation process to all 501C3 non-profit organizations operating in the Greater Hazleton area. This is the first time in the history of the organization that this new grant opportunity is happening.

The grant application period is now open and will close on April 26, 2024 at 3pm. Organizations applying must complete an application which is avaiable online or for pick up at the United Way office located at 200 West Chapel Street in Hazleton Monday – Friday from 9AM to 4PM.

Organizations applying must fit into the following categories. Education, Health, Financial Stability and Safety Network. The non-profit must target Hazleton area families with dependent children and income limits at no more that 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Safety Net proposals will target individuals, families, and youth at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level or facing immediate threats to their well-being. Funded proposals must track and measure United Way of Greater Hazleton’s Community Outcomes and Indicators.

“As we work to better serve our communities, we must adjust the way we are funding projects and programs we are funding. said Gary Perna, Untied Way President/CEO. Over the last few years funding has decreased but the need has increased, and we must make sure every dollar is spent wisely, Perna said.”

Collected applications will be reviewed; if the organization passes the first review, contacts will be notified with a time to appear before the allocation panel.
